Businesses, local authorities, companies: become a UMAY Safe Place and offer somewhere anyone can find refuge, a listening ear and support when they need it.
A Safe Place is a welcoming, well-lit and accessible place where anyone can find refuge when they need it. Bar, restaurant, shop, pharmacy or public institution: open your doors to anyone who feels in danger and become a point of support in your community.
To become a UMAY Safe Place, you and your team complete mandatory training, online and/or in person. UMAY helps you set it up and gives you the keys to welcome, listen to and refer someone who feels unsafe.
Welcome the person, invite them in and offer them a calm space, away from danger.
Listen with kindness and without judgement, and give the person all the time they need.
Point them to the right support: loved ones, emergency numbers, and the police if necessary.
Write to us via the form. We’ll talk about your venue and your needs.
Your team is trained to welcome people in distress.
You receive the “Safe Place” signage to display in your window.
Your venue appears in the app, visible to the whole community.
UMAY supports cities and regions in preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), from analysing reported incidents to raising public awareness. Maps of anonymised reports, a network of Safe Places, staff training and on-the-ground action: build a prevention strategy that’s concrete and visible.
